I'm not really invested in it, I have a couple relatives who are operators and I see how it affects their lives though. I also think it's funny how there is such a pro-blue collar, anti-white collar mindset by some on the board. Operator work is not as good as some make it out to be, and it's not as shitty as others will have you believe.

Also, not all doctors give up holidays and work shift work

This is something I agree with. But for those that can't do white collar work, which is is most considering 68% of Americans do not have a degree, it's a damn good job.

LOL people that get one of the highest paying 4 year degrees with some of the most rigorous course work

Outside of your limited field, this means nothing

Scene plants run better during a strike enty of time.

It's fine you think lowly of engineers and it's ok to be wrong too

But if you are a professional and remotely successful you are prolly working 10 hours a day, 50+ hours a week and not getting paid for those hours.

Excuse me? I would not agree with this at all

You do realize you are the steriotypical operator everyone is making fun of right? You think you're smarter than engineers, but you work shift work and talk out of your arse.

Where the hell do you read I think lowly of engineers?

Because I said they wouldn't make good operators? I have the same thought when it comes to cops, they dont make good operators.

A good engineer knows their limitations and knows their strengths. Most of the time their strength isn't on the dumb end of a hose while there is a pump fire happening.

Likewise, I don't want my operators calculating pipe thickness with a community on the line.

And you're the sterotypical person replying with their head up their arse.

Is a plant operator similar to a production operator offshore ?

How you don't realize the difference between these two things is comical, yet not surprising.

In the grand scheme of things. Yes.

Two Ops positions vary greatly.

Probably why they wouldn't let me be an operator.

Did this thread just go Operators vs. Engineers?!

Lets go ahead and get operations maintenance involved in this. They are they laziest SOB's I've ever seen. Do more work getting out of a job than they would if they would just go do the shite. If I had the power, I would fire the whole lot of you and let contractor trash come in and do all maintenance. This goes for every plant I've been in.

This is better than Days of Our Lives. What exactly do you do in a plant then?

You are not the first nor will you be the last to disagree with this. But sorry those in some sort of management position usually are on salary and work 50 or more hours. I consider successful to not be a typical entry level position and to be some form of management.
