He was the guest speaker at our safety banquet at Nicklos Drilling in Eunice back in the day. He was a very funny man....

I’ve always heard he was born and raised around central Tangipahoa Parish, where I believe his father’s folks were from. But I seem to remember his mother’s family being from down around Assumption or Lafourche Parish. I may be wrong on that, but if true, the Cajun culture would likely be in his genes somewhere.

I fixed the link. I don't know why, but the original one stopped working right after I posted it. The stream is back up now.

quote:One of the most surprising things I learned from this board is that some people in South LA, even Cajuns, actually like Southern Comfort -- you'd think they'd want to burn down Hollywood just to make sure they kill everyone connected to that film. Southern Comfort does have one of my all time favorite lines: Our heroes are hiding at a Cajun picnic, and Powers Boothe is still worried the villains may find them. Keith Carradine reassures him: "Relax -- these are the good Cajuns".
I also saw the movie 'Southern Comfort' as a kid, which didn't help the perception
Meaning there are presumably roaming bands of bad Cajuns out there terrorizing the bayous.
There's also an infamous episode of The Fall Guy which I have never seen, where Heather Whats-her-face is kidnapped by "Cajuns" (acting like rejects from the Dukes Of Hazard) and told she will learn the hard way what it means "to be a Cajun". This episode inspired many outraged letters to The Times-Picayune back in the day.

We loved him. I think he was from Michigan though. But i mean who cares at least he was funny. I worked offshore with an old boy from out of lafayette who spoke everyday with a british accent and he wasnt nowhere near as funny.

4 pages and no one has said anything about "Dem L.U.S. Tigers from Baton Rouge"

Watch him make gumbo on YouTube and based on the ingredients and technique you’d swear he was from Colorado. Definitely not authentic.
However, he was entertaining as hell and watching him on Saturday mornings with my dad are some of my favorite memories.

He was my neighbor for a few years. He was born in Roseland , LA. He is buried in Port Vincent , LA. I had the pleasure of knowing him as a good friend. I would go on errands with him and had the pleasure of taking many of pictures of him with surprised fans at various places he would visit. His accent for the most part was real. He just laid it on a little thicker when in public. By trade he was a Safety Engineer.

He Lived in Lake Dixie Springs, MS. I ran into him on and off when I was down there and got a couple of cookbooks from him signed.
He was an old man when I knew him, and was a good fellow. We never talked about anything important or whether or not he was a true Cajun. It was during the Clinton Presidency. So, don’t ask. Don’t tell. I suppose.
CSB.

You guys are hurting my feelings. How did I not know this!?
Don’t feel bad. This is news to me too. Always knew he was playing it up, but figured he had at least a little bit of coon in his arse.
So is this dude really that big of a mystery...? Mississippi, Michigan, Louisiana?

I happened to watch one earlier, and it did look bad. 4 cups of Sauterne wine went in the gumbo.

Ran into him once in an Albertsons. Just to be nice, I greeted him and he proceeds to breakout into a routine in the produce department. To say it was awkward is an understatement.

You know, Safegulf and HUET weren't too bad, but earning a TWINK Card is just downright unpleasant.

People from Roseland DO NOT even have a hint of a Cajun accent.
