In Beijing, when the Pakistanis walked into a bar, there was immediate hostility between us and them. You really learn to hate them after dealing with their bullshite for a while.

Seriously, I spent 3 weeks there, and aside from tongue and cheek stuff, I never had an issue.Just do what this poster says, and the French will be pleasant to be around.
And if you really think about it, Americans are almost without question the culture least patient with foreigners. If some guy who speaks maybe 200 words of English comes to visit, we all get pissed that there is a language barrier. You won't even find that in France. Even trying to speak our own language pisses us off if you don't do it without being able to understand them the first time. We need to look a bit in the mirror on how we treat tourists before we get pissed at the French.

I work almost exclusively with French people and get along with all of them minus one but everyone dislikes the one guy. He would be an a-hole no matter what nationality he was.

The French don't hate us. Had zero flak there and I've been multiple times.

This. I've lived in 7 different countries and traveled to countless others. They claim to hate us but mimic us in very way possible.
I just got back from France 2 hours ago and didn't feel the hate at all. Paris felt more American influenced than I ever remember. Also, they themselves call them french fries now. It's on practically every cafe menu.

Brazilians like Americans. Any dislike you find in Brazil is the same as every other central and South American countries. They don't like that The US turned a blind eye to some serious human rights atrocities that occurred under US sponsored military dictatorships.
