I don't disagree with either of these points.
I'm of the opinion that the vast majority of people in this country are racist, but there are only a small minority who will actively do something about it. People are highly prejudiced, but most aren't in a position where they can express it openly.

That wasn't the original point. We're talking about a white guy being afraid to walk through a black neighborhood, and while I agree, I think it is just as reasonable for a black guy to be concerned walking through a white neighborhood.
