I got a political science degree. It's useless.

One thing that really aggravates the piss out of me about student loan forgiveness is that they'll pay a bunch of folk's loans off but not do anything to actually fix the problem.

Should be mentioned that UW has one of the top marine biology programs in the country. But it simply isn't a career track undergrad degree. Nephew's best hope is to seek an entry level field tech job with a state agency or regional consulting firm. Of course it has to be a coastal state, partly explaining the small job market. A marine biologist with some capabilities in dataset management and/or gis should have an advantage.
I had a telling experience several years ago when attending a workshop on career training. Five renown marine biologists spoke. Then a student-age woman asked each in turn "how many marine biologists work for you?"
Four admitted to hiring none. One did have a single employee, her daughter working as a publicist.

best program on the short bus!
unless you have a passion for teaching, and are averse to a decent income/wealth accumulation, you might want to shy away from marine biology

That's a huge field with big demand. Integrating marketing with a company's web presence, social media, online ad purchasing strategy, etc.
I dont care if you're a doctor, lawyer, insurance agency, engineering firm, trucking company, etc etc. You need a web presence and you need to have a positive social media strategy.
It's a solid skill set to be able to pull all of that together.
