It was almost certainly be worth your money to fly to Denver or Utah to go skiing instead of staying in the southeast.

Pretty true IMO.

I was in CT for HS and skied all over the EC. When I went out to Colorado for a family trip it was like I'd been turned into a master w/how much easier it was to deal with. Even the steep arse double diamond mogul runs and tree runs we easier to deal with.

All the ice you deal w/on the EC really makes a nice powdery run out West feel like a dream.

Depends where in the West. West Coast can be much different from the Rockies.
