New Orleans made that list a few years ago, and makes total sense to me.

Any decent city with a college/nightlife in it.

Then your known quantities like NYC.

I would think Phoenix would be good for that.

I am confident that you should never, never ever use the word "booming" to describe growth of anything (cities, economies, sectors of employment, etc), what say you O&G or Real Estate peoples?...

Also best cities for interracial relationships?

I've seen you post this in a few threads. The PNW made quite an impression on you.

It was weird. The woman at the car rental place was a complete ditz who couldn't even do the basics of her job, the lady we rented an AirBnb from was a space cadet, bartenders would just ignore us, servers were as detached unfriendly and unhelpful as people talk about those in Paris being, we went to the movies late one night and they were out of beer and couldn't figure out how to tap the kegs, had the strangest Uber ride of my life... on and on. I'm used to hardcore hipsters, artists, musicians, dreamers, and strange-looking people - I live 2 or 3 minutes west of UT in central Austin - but I typically get good service and have nice conversations with people everywhere I go. I think everyone in Portland was just really, really high. I'm being serious.

I don't know man. My wife is from VA. It seems like a lot of educated women are on the East coast, which is nice because they have their own careers.

I met my wife in New Orleans. The way I see it, she self-selected to live in New Orleans, which goes to her personality, so best of both worlds to me.

But every one has a different type. I could never get married to some Mrs. Degree.

Austin is getting ruined. Too crowded, too many outsiders, and too many douchebag hipsters who buy their clothes at goodwill and rail against capitilism but aren't willing to give up the $3000 a month apartment their rich parents provide for them.

Scottsdale would be GREAT for that.

In the inverse - a young woman looking for a guy: Houston. A lot of well groomed (non-hipster), well-paid (oil and gas) young guys from the Houston and the south. Normal values and life outlook, stable, etc. And tons of them.

Or if you are a young woman of the more granola type:Denver. They call it Menver for a reason.

This is definitely an issue here. It's very pronounced, but it's in Houston and Dallas now, too. Layabout hipster types are everywhere now.

Ya, I haven't been really anywhere remotely large where I haven't seen them. I think it is a bit over bitched about.

You can easily avoid the "enclaves" for the most part as well.

You hit the nail on the head. We moved out to Austin a little too late in the game. The people here are OK. They're nicer than the northeast, but aren't incredibly friendly. Mostly hipster twenty somethings with minimal personality.

I'm putting an offer in on a house in Seattle today. We're going 8% over list and are pretty sure we're going to lose it to either somebody going 20% over list or a straight cash offer. It's insane

Portland is a poor man's Seattle.

Portland is a hot - prices are skyrocketing, which is why I went ahead and bought another home, here. Having said that, it's damn affordable, compared to Seattle.

I know exactly what you mean. I feel that way about Portland, and I live in Austin. I like the town. But the people... I dun't know if I can put a finger on it. They just seem... off. Like a slight case of Invasion of the Bodysnatchers. They were all kind of Aspergers. Like bad, un-dynamic personalities with low energy levels. No one was particularly nice, service from everyone was shite, slow, and disorganized. I went away thinking, "I had a good time, I liked that town, but I couldn't live there." I went into it expecting to want to move there.

That's why I live in the burbs. Normal people live there and laugh at the Portlandians as they try to pass Global Warming legislation or figure out how to subsidize homeless people without being completely overrun by them. I go downtown when I want weird. Or good beer.

Huh, I've had the opposite experience.

People have been almost uncomfortably friendly in some circumstances and I've lived in the South my whole life.

I mean, the guy in charge of the beer section at HEB was REALLY helpful

Seems like many people are looking for friends as well, since so many aren't from here, leading them to be nice and outgoing. I've pretty quickly met about 3 to 5 people who may become good friends or not in the two months I've been here. No idea if they will stick but that's doing pretty well from scratch.

Asheville, NC is a really cool and unique city.

Lived in Raleigh-Durham last year and its a beautiful area with plenty to do. Traffic isn't too bad either for the most part.
