I wear a pair of Skechers steel toe shoes at work and they're comfortable and last for years. Also had a regular pair of Skechers like 10 years ago and I remember them being very comfortable.

I don't know that they were ever cool, but their skate shoes were pretty damn popular with kids in the mid 90's.
ETA - that doesn't seem to be their target market anymore, but I googled them. They do $3.6 billion a year in sales so somebody somewhere buys them.
