t was easy to pick up but used a variety of skills and some coordination to play. Maybe that's why it was so popular.
takes some strategy too. Got to figure out who was worth keeping around

There was nothing worse than waiting 5-6 deep in line at recess only to freaking rope the ball on the freaking serve for a 2 second game. Smh, pisses me off just thinking about it.
Wall ball was my jam.
Wall ball was my jam.

I played tetherball a little but never really got into it.
I only remember playing 4-square in PE a couple of times. Some of the girls in my class didn't ever want to participate in PE so they would intentionally lose games on purpose to sit out. My clearest memory of 4-square was trying to stay in the game while a few of the girls that had lost were singing/dancing next to us to the song 'Push It'. That was probably around 6th grade so the girls were starting to get more attention from me than the game.
In 3rd/4th grade, my favorite playground game was kickball. I've almost played the adult version a few times recently but probably wouldn't be the same.

Reminds of the whole if "Black Magic" and "White Magic" was allowed or not during the game, which I can't really recall what the functional difference was.
As for tetherball, there was me and an even taller kid. We finally met to settle it once and for all. He of course sets up the serve at the top of the rope and its closing fast. All I can do is leap as high as I could and give it a hit. Well, I landed on the side of my foot, stumbled, raised my face up right as the pole made contact right on my front tooth and chipped it, and knocking me to the ground. I still have the corrective bonding or whatever to this day, 22 years later.

Recess 4 square was awesome... Then the girls starting playing Chinese jump rope. It was fun to watch them jumping around.
I don't think kids play 4 square, Chinese jump rope anymore. They probably watch videos on their phones at recess now.

It is something kids do in middle school or earlier. You started doing drugs way too early. Casty on you

The frick is wall ball?
You throw a racquet ball against a wall and catch it bouncing back, if it touches you or you drop it then you have to run and touch the wall before the others throw the ball trying to bean you. I think you could also throw the ball to hit the wall before they touched it.
Then if you get hit you had 3 strikes, you go to the wall face first so butt facing the playground and everyone gets a chance to bean your back.
