Because that simply isn't true, no matter how many times your pastor says it is. Old Testament prophecy is demonstrably false in some instances, ambiguous in others and in still others the "fulfillment" is circular (The Bible fulfilling Bible prophecy). The Old Testament prophecy is not fulfilled because the New Testament tells a story predicted in the OT.
