When I was in high school I used to mow lawns in the summer for extra cash. There was a house I did regularly that was owned by a nurse and her felon husband that did nothing all day. He didn’t have a job or anything else to make money, basically a fricking bum.
One day after finishing up their yard he comes out the house to pay me with his wife’s money and starts talking to me like he normally does. He was the type that will talk to you for 12 hours if you let him and told you nothing but bullshite. After talking for for a solid 10 minutes my 18 year old self was ready to get the hell out of there. As I start packing up my stuff he asks me “hey are you down to make some extra cash?” I told him sure why not and he proceeds to tell me one of he most bizarre/trashiest things I’ve ever heard.
Apparently the couple across the street were getting a divorce and were fighting over the custody of their 15 year old daughter. The mom was supposedly batshit crazy and the daughter wanted to live with the dad. I didn’t know where he was going with this story and how I was supposed to make money from it, but then things started to get weird. At 15 years old you obviously are not an adult so she had no say in what parent she wanted to live with. In the state of Missouri there are only a few ways to become an emancipated minor, one of which is to get married. He tells me the dad is willing to pay $3000 for a young guy like myself to marry his 15 year old daughter. All I had to do was go to court with them, sign the papers, and the next day we could go back and get a divorce.
I ended up telling the guy I’d think about it knowing damn well I wasn’t going to. The next day I get a text from him asking if I’m down. I told him no thanks and he proceeds to start calling me a pussy and how at 18 years old this was an opportunity of a lifetime. Dude was sketchy as hell so I never went back to mow his yard after that haha

Not asked of me but by me.

I tried to pay some dude $3000 to marry my OT10 daughter but his dumb arse decided to become a landscape architect instead.

You find it hard to believe that they wouldn’t give the dad custody in court? I don’t think you know how divorces work

I find it hard to believe there is a jurisdiction that doesn't give at least some weight to the wishes of a child that is 15 years old.

Pretty sure I know more than you do how courts handle divorces and custody determinations.

So if two parents are fighting over custody of their daughter you think the dad would win? I obviously don’t know the details of their case but it’s not surprising the mom won

Yes, if he can demonstrate custody with him is in the best interest of the child.

I’ll take your word for it considering you’ve probably been through plenty of divorces. There was probably some key details missing that I wasn’t told at the time. The dad was offering me money to marry his daughter, he was probably just as crazy as the wife
