I would recommend Paranoid Android for Nexus phones. Cool features, but still close to stock.

When I sent group texts on textra it sent to each person in the group as an individual text to just them until I changed to send group as MMS.

I am new to android just bought a note 3 and downloaded textra. How do I turn it on? I've opened up my texts and gone to settings and don't see an option to activate it. Damn iphones..

Idk. I feel like it automatically did it for me. Is there no option to set as the default texting app or something?

Thanks, I got it yesterday after I got off work and had time to mess around a bit. Anything on there a must have that you know of before I start looking around? Its the cydia of android looks like. Only thing I have so far from there is adaway, but that came with viper rom in stalled already. That pandora is nice. I may use it more now that it is add free.

Not that I can see. CAD, when I open up my conversations and go to settings the only option I have is to change My "input mode" ala: gsm, unicode and automatic.
I can't even find the textra app with the rest of my apps now that I've downloaded it.

in the past i've always had to manually look for newer versions.
i've been looking at alternative keyboards on that site but nothing i can't live without so far.

I have an htc one, and under "more..." In settings there is a tab to set the default sms app. Not sure if that was there stock or if viper rom added that option. I've been rooted forever and cant remember seeing that option stock.

I had adaway already and once I downloaded f-droid it showed an update for it. It recognized that it was installed. Very nice.
