Could you imagine if Raptors were still around and could fly? They would be wrecking shite

There is a lake nearby that I kayak in frequently that has bald eagles living nearby. I've seen them flying around and they are massive. There were was one time I had my pug with me and noticed one flying back and forth over us...looking down with interest. Bet he was contemplating whether or not Butters looked like a potential lunch. I was kinda nervous at that point. Didn't want to deal with a bald eagle swooping down to snatch Butters
I mean...if that would have happened...and I smacked it with my paddle to get it away from us....then I'm the a-hole that injured our national bird and could face jailtime and/or fines for it.

We had a colony of ferrall cats in my community. Not one of the kittens would last more that a week or two after they started walking around. We have three Bald Eagles and several Opsrey in the area. I assume the kittens made for a good meal.

I remember back in the 80s when I lived in Alaska it was not uncommon for people to lose their cats or even dogs to bald eagles. A girl I knew at school had her little dog snatched off the front of their Bayliner one day.

Awesome.
How many birds do cats kill every year? Nice to see it flip for a change.

Yes, but you know like I know when someone says the Raptor they are referring to this:

If a bald eagle wanted Butters there isn't much you do to stop it.

My aunt's dog was killed by a large bird of prey(not a bald eagle) out here in AZ a year or so ago. Tiny little dog. My aunt had him on a leashed run thing outside(this was not when it was hot outside). She thinks the bird tried to swoop down and snatch the dog but since it was on a leash...it likely just kept trying to fly away with it and couldn't. So the dog was strangled by this and then the bird just dropped it to the ground.

I'v seen an owl get a cat...Not sure why anyone would be upset about our American Bird doing it. There are an estimated 74-96MM cats in the US...those are just the pets

I remember when the girl came back to school on Monday and told us about the eagle taking her dog we asked her the stupid question (we were 15-16 afterall) "so what did you do?". Her reply was "just watched it fly off. What else could we do?".

That is what I was thinking while I was in the kayak
I was looking at what I could do to scare the bird off. All I could think of was to swat at it with my paddle or just start blowing the whistle on my lifejacket over and over.
Could you see the news that night
"Woman and pug attacked by bald eagle"
A bald eagle attacks you...well that's like saying America itself hates you.

I'm not sure how it is now, but when I lived in Alaska there were some serious laws against doing anything to bother bald eagles. I don't know if this was actually true or not but I was told more than once up there that even if you find an eagle feather laying on the beach, you'd better not touch it or you could face something like a $10,000 fine.

The whistle is a pretty good idea, I don't think the paddle would work. It is a wild animal and if it is hungry enough it will get the prey.
