MS was completely ignored.

That state deserved far more attention and support than it was given.

50 counties were declared disaster zones and received full federal assistance, what other support did they deserve?

I passed through the area around Biloxi and Bay st.louis for several years post Katrina on my way home to visit my mom in Louisiana the destruction was almost believeable. Trees were snapped and bent over everywhere along the roads.

Statistics say that 498 black persons died in NOLA in Katrina and 433 white persons died. Only 2% of deaths were Hispanic or Asian or other. Most who passed were older than 75 years. If you look at the metro New Orleans racial makeup in 2005 whites faired worse than their actual percentage of the population. Anyone who claims this was not an equal opportunity disaster, and that all groups did not suffer equally in this horror, is flat out lying.

Never had to use that excuse. Usually if I'm in scrubs and show my work badge...I get off with a warning. Gotten out of several potential tickets that way. Cops love nurses usually.

Slow the frick down.

Being a nurse doesn’t entitle you to speed or break any other laws.

Over 1800 people died in Katrina. Less than 250 were from Mississippi.

So you have never sped in your life? Never gone 7 miles over the speed limit (what I was ticketed for)?

And who said it entitled me to? Just saying....the couple times I’ve been pulled over for speeding (only thing I’ve ever been pulled over for besides a broken headlight once)....I usually could get out of it if I had scrubs on.

I speed all the time. I haven’t had a ticket in ten years.

But I certainly didn’t show a badge to try and get out of it.

Take your welps.

Accept responsibility instead of using some crappy badge to get yourself out of something you did.

Well said. People nowadays have zero respect, in addition to this notion of zero accountability for their actions.

And why did that many die in Louisiana? In a city that for decades knew that if a hurricane came anywhere close to it they were fricked. Levees broke, pumps didn't work, Louisiana politicians didn't know what do. I just can't watch how spike will spin it especially when the mayor was black and the gove rnor was a democrat female,

I only had national and AZ local news to go by during that time. Once the flooding started....I very seldom saw any coverage of MS. Maybe a tiny blurb and then the rest was all focused on NOLA.
Probably didnt see any coverage of my house in Alabama that was under water. President Bush landed nearby and came and looked at it - doubt it ever made the news. We didnt bitch about it, just worked hard to rebuild and didnt blame anyone. shite happens living on the coast.

Agreed Paul.

We all make bad decisions but it’s crazy to me how many people try to lie and convince themselves and others that those decisions weren’t made badly.

Only showed my badge when the officer would ask for it.

You do realize I’m female as well? So that helps. Cop would see my scrubs and ask if I’m a nurse. I’d say yes and many times would still have my id clipped to my top so they would ask to see it.

Also helps that the hospital I worked for is one of the main places cops want to be taken to if they are shot because we are used to handling GSWs. So they usually respect those who work there.

ETA: Men just hate that women get out of tickets more often that is all. I’m not gonna beg to get out of a ticket....but if an officer thinks I’m attractive and wants to send me off with a warning...,I’m not gonna beg him for a ticket. That’s just dumb.

No officer is going to ask for a badge from someone unless they mention it in an attempt to get out of something they did.

Again, you’re using excuses for your behavior.

I don’t care if you’re female, purple or from a Red Planet.

Respect yourself and own up to what you have done in your life.

You do realize they asked to see my badge that was clipped on my scrub top? And that anytime I’ve been pulled over in my scrubs the cop asks me if I’m a nurse.

Most people that see a female in scrubs..,assume nurse. You must not get the whole cop/nurse thing. Cops and nurses always have had mutual respect for one another. We deal with cops all the time at our work. We help each other out.

Do you know what an ID badge is? You know...plastic card with your pic and name on it. Proof you are an employee? Clips to your shirt?

I clip it to my scrub top before I leave my house so I don’t forget it. Mandatory I wear it at all times at work.

I have tons of badges to get into various places that I need to get into for work.

The ones in plastic casings with alligator clips on them.

Do you know what an alligator clip is?

Nevertheless, I keep them in the console of my work assingend truck and take them out as necessary.

You aren’t as important than you may think.

Everyone has badges.
