If you have the chance to go to Mt. St. Helens it is well worth the trip from Portland or Seattle. One of the most fascinating places in the world. If you can get passes, the climb to the top is non-technical and a lot of fun.

With the ice Ranier has around its summit, it would wipe out much of Tacoma , Puyalup and Eatonville if it did blow.
