It's pretty hard to claim you are in fear for your safety when you have already successfully removed yourself from the situation once, and then willingly went back in and killed the guy.
Bingo! We have a winner!

Washington law specifies that “no person in the state shall be placed in legal jeopardy of any kind whatsoever for protecting by any reasonable means necessary, himself or herself, his or her family, or his or her real or personal property.”
And the argument will be was it reasonable for him to leave the property, retrieve a weapon and then return to kill the guy?

What is the guy yelled from the shower that he has a gun in there with him and is going to come out and shoot the whole family? I don't know what was said but this is what I would be claiming if I was the homeowner.

He left to go get a gun and came back to shoot a drunk in his shower. Gonna be hard to claim self defense.
This.
And it was in a separate residence than the one he lived in and where he kept the gun. He could've gone to his residence and called police and stood guard.
This is murder IMO.

So am I supposed to just hope that the police can show up before this dumbass finishes taking his shower??
And leaves? Gotta kill him before he gets away with using water to take a shower? The guy (killer) didn't live in the house that the guy was taking a shower.

On the other hand, people do mistakenly enter the wrong house.
I had a shitfaced buddy visiting us at Ole Miss from Baton Rouge. I lived in a cookie cutter neighborhood. He went into my neighbors house, who was a female, and got naked and slept in her bed.
In my house, that was the guest room where he was staying.
She came home the next morning and found him in her bed and figured it was her roommates friend or something. He woke up and walked downstairs and has to ask who she was and explain what happened.
Great shite. He's lucky she was so cool about it though.

This guy should be going to prison for the rest of his natural life.

So if a person hates mailboxes that litter highways in rural areas and is attempting to beautify the US by taking one down while intoxicated it is okay to kill them. I can see the headline now: "Local homeowner does whole community a large favor. Drunk man attempting but unable to kick mail box was shot and killed by alert citizen protecting his and other's property."

The guy who killed the intruder didn't live in that house. This argument won't work. He murdered the guy. He was still in the shower after the guy left, got his gun and came back and shot him.

This is like if you owned the house next door to yours.
You go over there to check on something, find a drunk in the shower, go back to your house, grab a gun, go BACK to the neighboring house, and shoot a naked dude while he's taking a shower.
That is clearly murder. All he had to do was stay in his residence, lock the door, have the gun ready in case, and call the cops.
ETA:
This is clear premeditation, not self defense, and he shot a naked guy through a shower curtain that was not even looking at him.
I am pro protecting your house with lethal force. This is not one of those cases. He was not in danger and it wasn't even his primary residence.

I don't live too far from here and saw this story on the local news last night. According to them, the man was unintelligible and probably very drunk. Once the guy removed himself from the house (a second house that nobody lives in), he should have returned to his residence and called 911. It's hard to argue self-defense when you had already removed yourself from the situation and willingly returned.

It's not LIKE. This is what happened.
The guy left the situation to get his gun. Went back and shot the guy, who was still in the shower four times.
He did not call the police until after he had killed him.
He should have called the cops, taken the guys clothes and gone through his pockets/wallet to see if he had any cash to fix the front door.

Homeowner: Get out of my house.
Intruder: I have a gun in here and I an going to shoot you, then go next door and kill your family.
What do you do? Wait till he comes out of the shower? Stick your head in there to verify if he indeed does have a gun or not? Or shoot first and ask questions later?

Well, that's not what was said. The homeowner claimed he was slurring so bad he couldn't understand him.

How do you know what was said? I don't know I wasn't there either, but if Im the homeowner that's what I am claiming.

This seems to help the homeowners case. "He was slurring so bad I couldn't understand but it sounded like he said he had a gun and was going to shoot me"

Because that's what he told the police and it was reported on the news.

Too bad he didn't think of that. Now he's going to prison.
