Her comment pissed off the nursing community because she was basically saying that nurses at rural hospitals don't need to take proper breaks cause they have nothing to do.
The bill is about protecting nurses from being subjected to mandatory overtime and to ensure they get the breaks they are supposed to get in a shift(usually the standard 12 hour shift most hospitals go with now for nurses in patient care). Many hospitals find loopholes to these. They will mandate their nurses to work overtime when they are really short. Or you are so short staffed you never get to even take a 30 minute break in a 12 hour shift and the hospital doesn't do anything about it.

Seriously. Ask literally anyone that works in a hospital and they’ll tell you that nurses are their best friend. I’d be worthless without them

I know you are trolling but that is actually part of the whole issue. I can't tell you how many times when I was at the bedside I would try to go in the lounge to take a 30 minute lunch...that would get interrupted cause things got really busy and I had to leave my meal or quickly put in back in the fridge and go help out. And sometimes...I never got an opportunity to go back and actually finish my food. So in 12 hours...I got to try to eat my food in 10 minutes. Or I scarfed down a protein bar while charting on my patients.
It's part of the reason I left the bedside. We were usually always short staffed. Most of the time...on purpose so the hospital could save money on staffing costs.
And yes...when I worked nights...sometimes I did have a decent amount of downtime during my shift and I enjoyed it cause it was never a guarantee. But that wasn't every single night. Day shift however...they never have downtime...they are usually busy the entire 12 hours.

They do. And then the hospital spends double the amount on contract laborers who don’t give a shite about the community
