Had that happen to me and baby socks etc has clogged and ended up breaking the plastic propeller. Cheap part and was able to do it myself. Now a couple times a year I take the part just before the propeller and clean it good because it's some nasty shite in there. You'll notice your clothes will have a fresher smell.

Just replace the pump. It's a 20 minute job if you can handle the intracracies of a screwdriver and pliers. You can probably get a new pump for ~$50-$75 online. Google that part number and get your price and some websites even have a video showing how to replace the part.

We called the repairman. Don't remember how much, but it wasn't that bad. Certainly not plumber expensive.

The wife says it has happened to her before and she tried a few tricks with the settings and got it to work again. No such luck for me. She'll be back tomorrow. Maybe she can work it out. I would try replacing pump but it seems to be located in difficult spot that would involve a lot of disassembly. Also, might not be pump... So will prolly call tech if wife can't get it to work. Hope it's not too expensive... Tight budget!

If she was able to do that, try flipping the breaker for a few mins and see if you can reset it. Maybe she reset it somehow or unplugged it and plugged it back in. Sometimes something as simple as a reboot is all that's needed on things. Good luck.
Which that is just a temporary fix, but better than having to admit to your wife that you need her to fix the washer. I would buy a new one or all new clothes before I would do that.

pump clogged or not working.
Only thing that will cause a no drain issue if the pump gets power.

Mine goes all the way through final spin cycle but water does not drain ... I took it apart and held drain hose down to floor and the drum empties fine through the drain hose when gravity is employed so it does not seem to be a clog. I think it is the pump that is the problem. I just don't know.
exactly, bad pump, change it.
Could be a sock like others said, but pumps are very cheap for the most part on top loaders.

f you don't hear it actuate during the spin cycle it be died
Direct drive pumps are attached to the motor, you can't hear them, you can only hear auxily pumps, more commonly found on GE top load and all front load wahser.

Maytag? Probably the Shifter Assembly if it spins but stops before the water is drained. Maytag has a diagnostic mode that will give you the error codes.
If its a VMW Whirlpool I wound think it's the shift sensor.
I will say A huge issue with people who ask for appliance help here is they never give the model number.
There are literally 11 different Maytag pumps. And dozens of maytag platforms over the years. The "performa" series or whatever doesn't help either.
A lot of responses are based on poster's personal machines without regards to the vast differences between models.
So many things it could be, but without knowing exactly what you have it's hard to answer correctly.
