I took it apart and it drains ok through the discharge hose so I don't think its a clog in line. Maytag Legacy Series machine. Im no technician but I would guess that the pump is not working. Any suggestions from the OT before I bite the bullet and pay someone to come out and fix?

You have small kids? Those small socks will clog it up every time.

Don't know that I've ever heard it called a washer machine, only washing machine.

Had that happen to mine a while back. Ended up being a worn out switch/sensor on the door/lid. Simple fix.

Would work great till it got to the point water was supposed to drain then would just stop and sit there. Was the sensor which detects the lid being closed.

Mine goes all the way through final spin cycle but water does not drain ... I took it apart and held drain hose down to floor and the drum empties fine through the drain hose when gravity is employed so it does not seem to be a clog. I think it is the pump that is the problem. I just don't know.

Lift it and dump it out on the lawn yourself.

My God are there any real men left in this world?

Did you have someone come out and replace it or did you do it yourself?

My washer wouldn't drain when it would get to that part of the cycle. It ended up being the lid switch. I cut the wires going to from the switch. And connected the wires together, basically by-passing the switch. Washer worked find after.

Maytag? Probably the Shifter Assembly if it spins but stops before the water is drained. Maytag has a diagnostic mode that will give you the error codes.

Every wash cycle has 3 drains, drains the soapy water, drains the rinse and then drains the spin cycle.

If you washer is draining the other two parts of the cycle but is not draining the spin I would suspect the controller. It sounds likes it failing to tell the drain pump to come on for the last drain.

This makes sense ... I didn't consider this. Thanks for the insight.

Happened to me. There was a tiny sock stuck in the impeller of the pump.
