the Internet is incredible beyond words.
Is it, though?
Don’t me wrong, I would hate To not be on this site, but the internet has created a vast amount of problems. Not the least of which being that the government has used it as a tool to further invade our privacy and erode our rights.

It’s becoming homogenized from a business sense but it is Balkanizing culturally.
The old melting pot has gone away and now we have a salad bar instead.

And my salad is more aggrieved than your salad, therefore is more important.
And don't you dare try to make your salad look like my salad you cultural appropriator!!!!

Any technology brings new problems with it. And I do agree that the centralization of control over the Internet in the last decade has been an enormous problem... but:
(1) The quality of life benefits are off the charts
(2) Fundamentally, it can only invade your privacy to the extent you allow it. And while I do think the safeguards you have to take in this day and age are a bit ridiculous, you ultimately can still take them
(3) The amount of information you can access, and the speed at which you access it, is without parallel. As shitty as the government and social establishment is making the Internet, if they are ever to be replaced by something that meaningfully respects the will and rights of the people, it will be because the Internet fundamentally represents a breach in their total control that they cannot fix over what information we're allowed to know.

I think there are still pretty dramatic differences between different parts of the country.
