Completely, disagree. This way when a Dr.'s office tries to charge you more than the insurance contracted rate you can tell them to frick off. Insurance companies have contracted rates that I pay premium for a reason.
Or if insurance company doesn't pay the claim because they filed the paperwork incorrectly you can ask them if they called the insurance company to work it out. 95% of the time the answer is no. Now you can inform them that your insurance company represents you in this matter and they can take it up with them if they want to receive payment.
There is a special place in hell for those that orchestrate the current medical billing system.

Medical debt can be sent to collections. It just doesn't go on your credit report if it's under $500

I had a very similar situation. I got a call from collections or medical billing saying I owed some medical bills and gave me specific dates. The call was legit.
Long story short, I found out it was for a scrotal tear. I informed them that I would remember a scrotal tear if I ever had one. Found out it was actually for a guy that I knew of. We had the same first and last name. Our birthdays are 10 days apart.

I got an 8k bill from OLOL once. I called and they said it was for an outpatient surgery. They told be I had been paying on it for years. I had to go into the billing office. Once they pulled the record, 30 seconds later they knew it wasnt me as I'm not a 57yo black man. Apparently someone associated me paying a bill for an er visit the year prior to this guys bill because we have the same first and last name. I tried asking if they just start billing people with the same name but was told they didnt know and the bill wasnt mine.

quote:sounds kinda genius actually for someone that needs to go to rehab and (1) doesn’t want to pay for it, (2) doesn’t want a record of having to go to rehab
Who uses a fake identity to go to rehab?
