I'd rather hear about old man balls than the constant political crap. incan deal with some political jokes but it's become a contest to see who can bash Trump hardest.

I agree. Early Letterman, when he was on NBC, wasn't bad. And he tried to keep a respectable performance going at CBS. But he didn't have the entire viewing audience like Johnny Carson did.

My grandparents would also watch until the end of the second segment, before the first guest came out. Unless it was some hot broad my grandfather wanted to see.

I think people today really underestimate how big Carson was. I believe his retirement, which was 25 years ago last week, was inflection point in this country's history. For 30 years, the country had a shared experience at the end of the day. That no longer happens.

i thought the inflection point was when his show went from 1 & 1/2 hour to 1 hour

I am not sure how to spell the word, Fukarewe. Carson would tell Ed about a lost Indian tribe.

The joke was the tribe would go up to people and ask,"Where the fukarwe?"

Carson would often reference the Fukarewe but to my knowledge never told the entire joke.

One night I was watching and he said the censors have told him not to mention that tribe again.

It took several months before the censors caught on.

I have quit watching late night tv for this reason. They call it humor but it is so obvious that it is lame.
