Plus I have questions on how this will work -
Someone will come in with a script for 30 days of norco. They will tell them they can only fill for 7 days and the rest will be lost, or they can go to another pharmacy.

Is it a pharmacist making a call here using their judgement?
Or a corporate suit with a business degree making blanket policy based on optics?

So now a walmar pharmacy knows what's better than your doctor

It doesn't affect me as opiods are not my normal scripts but I see where this policy will just cause more issues for those who don't even use opoids redularly. ( only need them for surgery and kidney stones which is rare).
Sure....ahum.

I guess Walmart has never known anyone with a painful chronic disease. My cousin has a disease with no cure that he must take pain medicine for all the time called fibromyalgia. If he can’t get his medicine he gets nausea, diarrhea, can’t hardly get outta bed, almost like he has the flu
It really is a terrible disease

Walmart's pharmacy divsion's policy makers are generally pharmd's with MBAs.
It's probably a combination of recommendations of lawyers and the current political climate.
Disclosure: I'm a clinical pharmacist in a hospital and I'm a little wary of this decision. There are a significant number of patients that actually need consistent opiate administration for chronic pain issues and Walmart is essentially saying we don't want the risk associated with accommodating those patients- we're fine losing that business to avoid legal issues that could arise from filling inappropriate prescriptions.
There are serious issues and I'm not sure how to fix them. We just had a guy coming in to the ER withdrawing and narc seeking. I looked him up on PDMP and he had filled 49 scripts for opiates in the past year from 14 different prescribers at 5 different pharmacies.
How none of the doctors or pharmacies caught onto this is beyond me.

Corporate suit

Brilliant! We needed more opiate dependent people driving more frequently to walmarts.

Again, I'd rather step into and shop at DeAndres' crib for my opioids, than at wal mart.

There are plenty of examples of pharmacists knowing drugs better than doctors. People vastly underestimate and undervalue pharmacists.
I had a doctor prescribe my grandfather two drugs that counteract with another medicine he's taking that could've killed him. Thankfully the pharmacist caught it.

Sounds like a completely reasonable and sound business decision. There are plenty of other pharmacies to go to.

This is smart business. It forces the patient to go direct to the Plan of they have insurance and request a max day supply override. Plan and PCP have to work together to get it entered. If you're abusing the med, it limits abuse. If you're not, then you have nothing to worry about.

If you’re an adult male and need opiods for kidney stones, you should just go ahead and get a sex change operation.

this also describes anyone that's dope sick from opiates.
I'm all for anything that helps the opioid crisis. Don't know that this does much and seems more like a PR move.

WalMart gets folks into their stores weekly to feed both WalMart’s and their clientele’s fixes.
First thing I thought too. Gets those addicted to come in weekly.

Considering the username I'd assume she is either a woman by birth or already had the operation.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if this was the true motivation.

Or releases the MD from overprescribing which is where medicine is going. This change will eventually develope good rx writing habits. No one needs a 30 DS for a tooth extraction. No one.
