You can also turn a mediocre tipper into a good to great tipper over time with repeat good experiences.
I wouldn't call picking up a salad from a window or counter and leaving on my lunch break an experience. I've waited tables and the people that handled to go orders weren't waiters.

If you can't afford to tip, eat at home.
If you don't like getting stiffed on your labor, don't work in the food service industry.
See how that works?
The system is set up in such a way that you're not required to tip in these instances.

Am i supposed to tip the cashier at Academy too?
Your kayak isn't sold at a 20% lower rate at Academy due to a tip system.

i'm the one that went out of MY way to give you revenue. I could have eaten at home, and given my money to the grocery store, who i don't have to tip, or i could have gone to any other restaurant where i pick food up that doesn't expect a tip, like Zoe's, Serop's, Smash Burger, etc.
Again, the salaries of those employees are much higher than restaurant service providers because they are not on a tip system.

Not my problem. Don't offer to go services if it isn't financially beneficial.
Or just don't be poor and cheap.

Exactly. How many people are willing to serve a certain customer for $735 worth of food and not get a tip?
Like I said before its not like the employer cares if the customer tips or not, its not coming out of his pocket.

Go figure Rouge would have something cheap to say in a thread about tipping

The person working at the restaurant is poor.

Like I said earlier, good servers average out way above 17%. You just have to let the cheap ones go; that was this woman's mistake.
That doesn't mean this church was in the right. They're still wrong here but you have to be smarter than losing your job over something this trivial.

You could say the same to the business owner.

The woman was in the wrong...BUT the church should have ponied up a tip and asked the manager to not fire the lady.

Don't tell me this bullshite. There isn't a difference in the price for hamburger from Smashburger or from Chili's, and if there is, Chili's is more.

This isn't a waiter that is handling to go orders.

what did the church do wrong? Did they steal? Did they not follow the actual written rules of commerce?

Still poor, I've been there. Shouldn't make you feel entitled to a tip on a to go order because you are a college student.

Why? He's using a proven system where 90% of everyone - owner, servers, customers - win.
Customers get lower prices and better service. Owner gets a higher volume of business. Servers make a decent amount of money of a low skill job.

Not surprised. I've said it a million times. Sunday lunch crowd church people are by far the worst tippers.
And take out runner aren't waitresses. They put boxes in a bag. Based on the number of wrong orders I've gotten to go, they often don't even really care about double checking the order too.

They didn't adhere to societal courtesy about tipping
I know this is a difficult concept for you since you're cheap but it's customary to tip
