Like I said before, don't order take out if you can't afford to tip the waiter a few bucks.

This is a message board
If you boast about being a cheap arse little bitch don't be surprised when people criticize you for it
No one is suggesting what you're doing or not doing is illegal. They're just calling you a douche which seems appropriate enough.

better to be a douche than a fool

What people fail to understand is that people in the service e industry generally make shite hourly wages(varies by state)because they are expected to make tips
What?

I tip to-go, but only b/c I'm sympathetic and have been there before. But that station doesn't do enough to earn a servers tip, and they should have no expectation of one. To-go is not making $2.13/hr, and if they are, that's a management problem, not a customer problem. And it's not up to customers to determine if they are underpaid. One of the reasons people order to-go to avoid an extra 20% on top of their food. Someone packing boxes and answering phones doesn't change that.

Tipping within societal norms doesn't make you a fool
It makes you a courteous customer
If 3 dollars is going to break you then maybe you're in the wrong profession

I don't think that's why people order to go....

I don’t think anyone is arguing for 20% on to go orders either.

Well it was a takeout order. Why did she expect a tip when she didn't provide any service? How silly.

The real problem is, the service industry is the only one where the public is is supposed to subsidize shitty wages. Why is the public supposed to pay the wages the restaurants should be paying?
Tipping is an antiquated holdover from the Jim Crow era, when the railroads used to hire black folk for almost nothing and then argue that the passengers would tip them for handling their baggage and bringing them coffee. True story.
Tipping culture has gotten completely out of hand in the US. It took on a certain unique trajectory that doesn't exist anywhere else in the world, and it has gotten to the point of absurdity.
20% is crazy, y'all. If the labor costs that much, just add it to the costs of the meal. At least then I know the true cost of eating out and I'll do it less often.

Of course not
And people aren't ordering to go to avoid tipping. They're doing it for other reasons.

No one is asking you to solve differential equations. If you can't ballpark what 20% of the bill is in your head then you're a moron.

And a good morning to you, too, sir.
Let's just say I suspect that 20% is actually higher than the true market value of the labor. Does that argument sit better with you? Again, 20% tipping is easily the highest in the world. It is absurd.

She deserved to get fired
I understand her frustration but she's not too sharp

Depending on the quality of service you have a point
20% is not absurd for excellent service. Particularly when the cost of your food is already subsidized by low wages. If you think that the cost of your food isn't subsidized by lower wages then your issue should be with the pricing on the menu. Some places are objectively overpriced for the quality of the food and atmosphere.

So you're cool with paying 3.5x the original price for a bottle of wine but you can't tip your server a few bucks for providing service?
