I'm looking in this segment and fell in love with the aesthetics of the Volvo. But I was hoping to hear some real world stories about maintenance in this thread has provided that. My close second is the Audi Q7 and BMW X5 Not sure on reliability of those either though. The review websites are so skewed it's hard to find a real answer.

Has it? Because people are just giving their anecdotes on old XC-90s and Volvo in general. Under Ford ownership, 1999 to 2010, their quality went way down. The infusion of Chinese cash and a blank-check to the engineering department in recent years has done wonders for them. The current XC-90 has only been around a year.

That's exactly what I'm looking for. Not looking for opinions on what brands people prefer but actual stories of maintenance issues, brand reliability etc.

We stayed away from Audi because we had just gotten finished with the TDI debacle. To be honest, VW made it right, so I wouldn't have said no, but my wife didn't have it in her top picks, so we never even went look.

The X5 was just pricier in both initial cost and maintenance. Girl I worked with had issues that scared me. Not that a single car had issues, but the cost associated with it if it did happen to you. They are all expensive, but BMW is up there. If they would have had a good lease special, we'd have been more interested, but purchasing scared me. And I don't think the 3rd row was as large as the infiniti/acura/volvo.

The Yukon looks like a brick on wheels.
