That's by and large been my experience. College name recognition may matter somewhat for entry level positions or in certain industries even (heard crazy stories about perception of A&M degrees in the oil field), but by and large you're getting hired by how well you interview and if you're thought to be a fit in the corporate culture.

There are places where it absolutely matters where you got your degree to get your foot in the door.

Good luck getting an interview at a Fortune 500 in Houston or Dallas with just a ULL undergrad degree. Those same employers are full of LSU grads.

Why is this so hard for people to admit?

You can still do perfectly well for yourself with a degree from any school, but some firms only recruit from certain schools.

It's funny.

A big, OOS company is going to prefer the lsu degree over a directional school. Just like they would prefer a vandy degree to lsu.

You think people in Massachusetts see an LSU degree and think "oh man, I gotta hire this guy"?

Probably not but at least he would know of LSU. Very few would know of ULL.

When i was at ULL a computer science degree from ULL was preferred to LSU 's computer science degree. I believe each school can be stronger in certain areas's than others. So your statement is not necessarily accurate. It depends on the major and how a school is accredited in that field. Big companies come to certain campuses if that college has a good to top flight program.

Same here. ULL's CS program in the mid to late 90's when I attended was nationally renowned.

I graduated from both ULL and LSU & the buildings I spent most of my time at ULL were SO much nicer than all of the buildings I frequented at LSU.... The UL buildings were either brand new or completely renovated within a handful of years. And for reference, I was at UL from 09-12 and LSU 13-17.

Nope. Come to Texas or go to Georgia. An LSU eng degree will get acknowledged. No one knows who the hell ULL is.

I know this from first hand managerial experience.
Come at me.

If "eng" is abbreviated for "engineering," then you're straight up lying. Believe it or not, we actually have a very good engineering program in Lafayette. Pretty much all of my friends who graduated from there with an engineering degree work in many different areas of the country (Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Houston, Dallas, Baltimore....) and are doing quite well.

But, nice try.

Oh, and our student union that we recently renovated blows LSU's out of the water.

People with ULL degrees can get real jobs in louisiana and not have to go out of state just to find a job like a loser

the failing lsu has become a safe space and they aren't even good at football anymore

The University of Louisiana is Louisianas true flagship institution

Nice troll post bro.
This may have been true 10 years ago, but the University has spent a ton of money renovating the campus for the past 8 years. Every single building has been refaced and looks brand new.

Nice try though

You want to see shitehole 4 year campuses?

They just renovated most of the buildings on ULL's campus. This is a lame troll thread.

I mean I know this is the OT, but are there really people that think LSU is a not a terrible "university"?

I am curious as to what criteria people think makes one University better than another academically if talking about a bachelor's degree.

If talking about a masters or doctorate, then there's a lot more to talk about, but a bachelor's degree? Not so much.

Name recognition and "prestige" are obviously a real thing, and clearly in LSU's favor compared to ULL...but as others have said, that ceases to matter within a year of graduating. If you're intelligent, hard working, and ambitious then you'll go far. If you're only redeeming quality is the University logo on your degree, then you will never amount to shite.
