Imagine if edwards randomly announced tomorrow that Louisiana's will now be $13.50. As a social experiment, I wonder what that would do to the state after 4 years.

Every small or independent business in the state would be out of business inside of 6 months.

I’m not a fan of minimum wage. But $15 an hour is 30k a year. How can anyone live off 30k a year?

Extremely low cost of living, especially when compared to California.

A $15 minimum wage would sink almost every business left in VP.

Work 10 hours of overtime a week and you’re at 40k which anyone should be able to live off of

Marry someone with a similar income and now you’re a middle class family

I'm pretty sure 40k is a middle class income. It's probably in the lower half but it's not a poverty level wage.

What separates middle from upper middle class as far as household income is concerned?

Judging by the numbers that were posted earlier that's solidly middle class in Ville Platte.

For a single person it probably is. I think the median in Louisiana is less than 40k

It's highly dependent on the area for sure but Ville Platte has to be among the cheaper parts of the country. According to the link below, 50k for a family of 4 is middle class in Lafayette. That was the closest metro measured. Obviously, it's much cheaper to live in VP.

I'd guess upper middle class is probably around 125k+ for a household on average.

That’s probably good money with OT in VP. Hard to believe what has become of Louisiana. Leaving was one of the best decisions I’ve made.

An officer working for them will probably work part time for other departments to supplement their income.

Some people may use it as a stepping stone position giving them experience to move on to a larger dept.

That’s nuts. The cashier women at Bucees make $15/hour at the Alabama store.

I agree. But my 17 year old high school daughter making $400 a week part time at a library loves it.

Also, restaurant servers make full minimum wage plus tips. Some of them are averaging $40+ an hour. It's insane.

And the $15 Big Mac should come without any complaints.

It's around $5 or so. Still too much for a Big Mac.

Then the owner is not making much money. I would raise my prices to keep a margin consistent. You can't stay in business with out consistent margins.

there are other ways. Reducing waste, energy efficiency, automation. Just because one cost goes up doesn’t mean you have to lose margin, it just means you need to be more efficient in other areas
