Vigilantism: Can you Airsoft/Paintball people committing crime?

If you can record them in the act of committing a crime, can you shoot them? If it depends on the crime, what is the measure of the crime?
example:
1. to stop a rape
2. to stop a car break in
3. to stop a UPS package thief
4. to stop someone not picking up their dog's shite

Airsoft someone? Are you 8? This is the south, we use real weapons, especially to stop a rape.

I don't think Airsoft of Paintball can be used as a verb.
BTW if you're thinking of stopping a rape with an Airsoft gun, just call the cops. You're just going to get shot with an actual gun or stabbed with a knife. Shooting someone with a plastic BB isn't going to stop anyone.
