Is there any hypothetical situation where the use of police force could be inappropriate?

There was nothing inappropriate from the force used in that video. If I'm a cop I'm not waiting to see if the gun is fake or not. What if the gun had been real? What was the police supposed to do? Pause, investigate and see if the gun was real and then act. I think not. I've owned pellet guns before and most look exactly like the real thing. Here is a genius thought. Don't play around with the police. Any decent person will tell you the same.

Just wait, this will be another race issue. The media and the backs are licking their chops. Mike Brown will be an distant after thought. I guess you can call it moving on up.

And the insurance company tells you to file a police report. You're welcome.

People this year shot by police holding BB gun:
Cameron Tillman
Christopher Roupe (probably was actually a Wii controller, police claim he was "armed")
John Crawford
Tamir Rice
Maria Rodriguez
Jose Walter Gaza
Jacinto Zavala
Eduardo Bermudez
Jimmell Cannon
Jawhari Smith
Glenn Griggs
Andy Lopez
John Wilson
James Genda
Anthony Chavez
Thomas McClain
Greg White
Nathan Boyd

Did the person who made the 911 call say "the gun may be fake?"

Single caller in a public area, no mention of shots being fired...NO frickING NEED TO CHARGE IN LIKE THE MARINES AT OKINAWA!! Slow down and assess the damn situation...just like the Wal-Mart shooting in Ohio with ONE overhyped 911 caller. If you're getting MULTIPLE calls then haste is warranted. Otherwise how about doing a little recon and EVALUATE the threat?

ETA...changed "high-traffic" to public but premise remains the same, maybe even MORE SO...WHO was this kid a threat to? This sh#t should piss off any decent human being.

That cop had his mind made up before her even got there.

What kind of dumbass drives right up to someone with an alleged gun to put themselves in a situation where they instantly have to shoot someone from a few feet away.

DUMB. AS. frick. All parties involved.

But you expect that from a child. That shouldnt be how our trained professionals with weapons act.

Completely agreed. This looks a lot worse than I figured when I saw the story. I was with the cops at first but I'm thinking I'm not now.

Appeared to be a good shoot to me from what I could see.

and you wonder why so many people are disgusted by cops

* feared for his life
* followed procedure
* committed murder

nothing to see here

You truly need to seek professional help. You are literally one of the most unhappy people I have ever come across. Are you ever happy? When is the last time you smiled?

actually, you're the one who desperately needs help. I can't think of a single person I know who could look at that video and not be disgusted. you are completely detached from the reality of civilized society. all you see of the world is police procedure and don't understand simple common sense. you're living in a cop vs the world mentality and no longer understand what it means to be human.

Has anyone asked this simple question? What in the hell is a 12 year old doing out in the middle of the night with a "fake" gun? These good kids need to be inside doing homework.

Well, then that makes it perfectly acceptable.

To get a better look at the gun, perhaps? Didn't help much.

They royally fricked up and now are trying to cover their asses.

I love how the lack of an orange tip is suddenly relevant.

They could not have seen it had it been there.

It was in his waistband, plus they are driving at speed and you cannot distinguish color well from distance -- especially something that small.

Yep. Next time they should wait for the guy to pull the trigger, just to be sure.

If the 911 caller had said "I think this kid is wanting to be shot by a cop," would the police be using that comment as justification for the shooting?

We both know that they would.

So why isn't the 911 caller's statement that "it's probably fake" an important statement?

Cops went home safely. Good shoot.

It is. Did the cop hear it?
