We had one of those hypnotists come to high school. It didn’t take on all the kids but others were definitely under some kind of trance. Had people acting completely out of character.
Guy I’ve known since 4 years old. Strong silent type. Acting like he was a in a rock band. Lip syncing songs and getting people in the audience to get involved. Hilarious but weird too.

I am not sure how it all works, but evidently it only works on some people.

The first time I went to Las Vegas we got tickets to go to a hypnotist. We were sitting in the back.. In the second to last seats by the exit door.

He "randomly" picks people out of the crowd and does his show. When he finishes and sends them back to their seats, they all go back and the lights darken and where we were sitting I noticed that 3 or 4 of the 8 or 9 people on stage went sit down and waiting until he had the crowd's attention again and they got up and left. They were not sitting by each other so it was less obvious.

When the show was over, we went have a drink at the casino and when we were leaving, the hypnotist was talking with one of the girls who was on stage and was one of the ones to get up and leave.

So based on that I figured he had to plant some people just in case. I might be wrong, but I don't think I would be able to be hypnotized. I couldn't just relax to the point where I could 100% clear my mind.

This is what google says about it.

quote:

It is easy to hypnotize a person who wants to be hypnotized because all hypnosis is, in the end, self-hypnosis. Contrary to popular misconceptions, hypnotism is not mind-control or mystical powers. You, as the hypnotist, are mostly a guide to help the person relax and fall into a trance-state, or waking sleep

A psychology professor performed hypnosis in one of our classes at LSU. I don't know how much I truly believe what followed. But, I do recall how he selected his panel.

He asked for volunteers, and hands went up. He'd walk up to the student and ask them to rise and follow his instructions: "Keep your head still and look up at the ceiling." The student was then told to sit down, or remain standing, and he moved on until a few enough remained standing to became the test group.

After the onstage performance was over, he explained why he selected his subjects using the test he did.

If he asked the student to look up at the ceiling and got a half-hearted or distrusting glance upwards, he asked them to sit down. If they looked up at the ceiling so hard that their eyes turned almost fully white from going back into their head, he knew he had their full trust, and were more likely vulnerable to the power of suggestion.

Always thought there was wisdom in that test.

I've never seen a hypnotist married to an ugly chick. Just an observation.
