I put in at the Claiborne county port this weekend. There were several people camping and fishing there. Easy access, good boat ramp.
Be aware that greenjeans is basically camped put there every day checking for people trying to illegally recover artifacts. He was there today for about 8 hours.

There is a spot on the bank just below riverfront park (currently closed) where I stopped today that has a ton of old bricks, square headed nails, some railroad spikes, and old clay pipes. I’m thinking it may have been an area where this stuff was dumped. You could probably reach it by walking north from Ameristar or by walking south from Waterview.

What’s illegal about finding artifacts?

Who’s down in that area now? Miles and Mobley both retired yet?

I think because you are taking artifacts found either on private land (without permission) or publicly owned land.

I parked at the Ameristar (as far left and near the river as possible) and walked down under the bridge, south of the bridge there is a lot of room to walk. Leteuorno Landing (south of town) is a great spot, there is a sandbar that is miles long. It was cool to see the river that low, but I didn't find any real artifacts.

Did you go Friday afternoon? I saw a couple of people between the bridge and ameristar around 5:30 or so.
