How are you sure they’re ‘pits’? Purebred or mutts? What else are they mixed with? This might help explain what to do...

Who mauled the sheep? The puppies or the grown dogs?

Do you live on a farm? Are these sheep domesticated?

Lastly, if you AREN’T concerned about this - if it did happen - then you’re an idiot.

Their family breeds pits. I can’t say for sure that they are purebred, I’ve never asked the neighbor for proof.

It was the two adults that mauled the sheep.

We do not live in the city limits, but the houses are close together in this vicinity. Mostly older people who have been here a long time. This particular neighbor has several farm animals that he accumulates, then neglects.
I have called animal control about the farm animals as well as the dogs.
Animal control stated that there is not much they can do when someone reports loose chickens. The chickens are not my immediate concern.
I am very concerned about the dogs, and I’ve contacted animal control several times. However, animal control did not respond immediately. When they did come, I wrote a statement complaining that the dogs were loose, animal control did not seem alarmed at all. I basically was made to feel like I had overreacted, even though I explained to them that they made me feel uncomfortable and that I had children who frequently play outside.
For the most part the dogs have stayed on their side and I hadn’t seen them act in a way that was vicious until yesterday with the sheep.

Again, I am extremely concerned. But considering the way I was blown off by animal control, I feel the need to validate my concerns. Basically when animal control does come, it’ll be my word against the neighbor’s.

Not at all. All dogs maul sheep to death.

Only if you own sheep.

If you had pictures of the sheep's grusome death, it would help.
If the local authorities don't do something, find a reporter who wants to make a name, and give them the pictures. Blood stains on the ground are a place to start.
Daily pictures with time stamps of the dogs roaming the neighborhood collarless are needed.

Pictures are what the newsmedia live on. Interviews (unless you are a pretty blond or a cute kid) seldom get the play that a photo essay does.

Just sit on your porch with a gun when they walk in your yard pow or get a cross bow know where you are shooting or leave poison out in your yard I think you need to change your antifreeze

Mauling a live captive sheep amounts to animal cruelty akin to dog fighting. They (neighbors) will do it again because they like it. That is when to call the police. Animal welfare will take too long. Better yet call the news...

How do the neighbors react to you calling on them or talking to them about it?

Are they nice or pricks about it?

I don't think the pits are what make this a "trashy or not" story. Who the hell has sheep just running around their neighborhood? That should've been in the damn title

They are complete pricks about it. I yelled at him from across the yard to inform him about what I had just witnessed. He said sheep was probably just hurt really bad, not dead. He does not care.

If not a troll, why didn't you call animal control when they were mauling and killing the sheep? I guarantee that would have gotten a reaction. Or you could have recorded it on your phone and told animal control that you'd be sending the video to the news if they didn't do anything.

I assure you, I am not a troll. I do not have the time or even the Witt to make up s story, and even if I did, it wouldn’t be about my neighbor’s dogs.
Truth is, I have been dealing with this for over a year now. I have researched the laws and asked around for advice on how to handle the situation. I have not gotten any solid advice, so I decided to post here, for the first time, to see if maybe I could get some ideas.
The reason I did not record the incident with my cell is because it happened really fast and farther off into their yard. I heard some racket, like hard knocking. When I turned around I realized that the knocking sound was the sheeps horns knocking against something trying to escape, as The dogs fought to bring it down. I did call animal control, but got got a recording saying they were closed until Monday. After giving it much thought I decided to call back and leave a message yesterday, just to let them know. Today, someone gave a cell number for the guy in charge. I called, told him about what happened and refreshed his memory about my calling a year ago. He said he’ll be here tomorrow to investigate. A few minutes ago I arrived home to find one of their Bully’s roaming my yard. I am making it a point to take pictures from this point. Like I said before, I have always been leery of them and they’re aggravating as frick, but I had never actually witnessed any aggression. I’m being told by one of their family members that this is definitely not the first sheep they’ve killed.

And as far as the description I’ve given of my neighbor’s yard and the fact that they abused animals AND own pit bulls, I am completely aware of how trashy it sounds. It is quite the eye sore, but when we first moved, it wasn’t this bad. Slowly throughout the years they’ve accumulated all these animal, along with their daughter, who struggles with addiction, as well as the sketchy traffic all hours of the night. But that’s another story...

Damn man, I'm sorry you have to live next to that. You probably did the best thing you could do to get a supervisor from animal control involved because someone could get hurt if your neighbor doesn't have to worry about any consequences.

If it's definitely not the first sheep that the dogs have killed, then the scumbag living by you probably enjoys when they do that. I would definitely mention to the animal control guy that it's not the first one they have killed and that your neighbor didn't care when you told him about what you witnessed. You might want to give 911 a call at night if you're suspecting drug dealing going on too because not much brings down a neighborhood faster than that. If your neighbor doesn't care about your concerns, you can give him some things to be concerned about and flip the script somewhat. Good luck to you.

Thank you! I will be putting up a fence this week also. I texted the wife to let her know what I witnessed. She holds a little more integrity. This time it was a sheep, next time it could be one of my kids or one of her grandchildren.

The situation with the neighbors goes beyond drugs.
When we first moved it was pleasant, aside from the neighbor who now has the roaming animals, the good outweighed the bad.
The elementary school is directly across the street and is a good small school that people want to send their kids to.
But over the years my good neighbors have passed away. They’ built and raised their kids in those houses. But after they’ve passed, the houses are too outdated and old to fix or sell, so they end up letting their children live in the house for free or hardly no rent.
I’ve seen it happen 3 times so far, the children trash the house and soon after they move in the sketchy activity starts. Every single time!!! It’s past time we move on!

I did not get any pictures though. Wouldn’t that be their word against mine?
