lol… people work for 40 years at various jobs all the time. And that’s what the pension, lifetime free healthcare, preferred mortgage assistance and other benefits are intended to compensate you for.
And I’m a veteran. My father is retired Army. My mother served. My brothher retires from the Army later this year. You’re not telling me anything I don’t know about.

No they don’t. Be serious and not obstinate to win an argument.
Sitting at a law firm or running a classroom for 20 years vs spending 2 decades in combat arms is like comparing dog years to humans…not even the same universe of wear and tear.

Where is all this disability coming from? Did they trip getting off the bus to boot camp?

That's like 3 posts in a row that I agree with.

FWIW, I don't mind the vets getting more money. To me, it's way better than the illegals or folks who've drawn money and never gave our country anything back.
I do. A scam artist is a scam artist. Pilots making $250-$400k per year should not be banking on huge disability benefits.

I knew this was gonna be a humdinger of a thread when I read the title.

ANY condition that develops OR worsens while serving.
It's completely different and completely seperate from SSDI. And people who need it can have SSDI as well as VA.
Im sure you all turn down every monetary incentive and option that comes your way because it wouldn't really be "earning it".

They get their veterans pension, and very likely approved for social security disability as well. I'm okay with it. They served their country and worked to pay in SS.
They didn't sit on their arse and draw welfare and food stamps.

SSDI and VA disability compensations are not affected by each other, so you may be eligible to receive both. However, you must apply for them separately. It may be possible to also be eligible for SSI, depending on income and resources.

Part of my out process checklist was scheduling a meeting with a VA rep. I figured it was another job seminar type meeting. It was a one on one meeting with this slob who dug into every page of my medical records trying to find whatever he could to get me on disability.
I was disgusted.

I know a guy who had a vasectomy while serving, reversed it after getting out and then lost the ability to get an erection. He now gets a check.

Exactly… which makes it more of a scam.

I’m a veteran. I could claim for my ankle that I hurt playing basketball in A-school. I don’t.

I don't know a single guy who has left the military that does not have some percentage of a disability. One guy I know has sleep apnea figured into his percentage.
I know several, myself included. I know others, members of my former squad on 100% disability and they deserve every nickel.
In some places the military is like any other job, other places, it grinds you up.

I know one too. Let me guess all of yours are officers right? Meanwhile they fight the grunts who are really disabled tooth and nail.
My guy goes to gym 2 hours a day runs 5 miles a day, bikes 20-30 miles a day runs marathons, Ironmans etc and and has the body of a male model or something. He is about to qualify for his 3rd federal pension. He is going to make almost 200k a year in retirement.
They work the system like a banshee

Likely so, and would like get a "service connected" finding but your COMPENSATION percentage would be 0%.

Lifetime free healthcare is only for treatment for a service connected injury. Preferred mortgage assistance is the exemption of paying property tax on your primary residence... up to a certain dollar amount.

Never knew there were some many vets on this board.
But hey, don't forget about the free education and stipend.
