The SU-85 (Samohodnaya ustanovka 85) was a Soviet self-propelled gun used during World War II, based on the chassis of the T-34 medium tank. Earlier Soviet self-propelled guns were meant to serve as either assault guns, such as the SU-122, or as tank destroyers; the SU-85 fell into the latter category. The designation "85" means the bore of the vehicle's armament, the 85 mm D-5S gun.
More info on the SU-85 here
This particular vehicle is from the 11th Guards Tank Brigade fighting around Orel, Russia in late summer 1943.

Dumb question, how do you put on new fresh paint and still make it look old? Very nice craftsmanship DV.

Thanks. I don’t do weathering like some do. I just put some brown & black wash on it to give it a somewhat dirty look.

I expected the Soviets to build their tanks a little bigger.

That’s a very cool hobby you have there! I like the bedroll or tarp attached to the right side.

This isn’t a tank.

Thanks. It’s very relaxing. I have a spare bedroom upstairs we call my model room. I can go in there, turn on a podcast or Spotify and just unwind.

It is very easy to inadvertently downvote when you are reading on a phone.

Was that thing effective at all? Looks like a cheap copy of a Stug III.

Hey Darth, love these threads as well. But educate me, how is it not a tank? It’s armored, on tracks, has big gun? Also, do you do planes, I don’t remembe?. I’m talking WWII planes

No log? J/K
That’s pretty great.
Maybe an odd question but what is the biggest model you’ve done? Just in terms of sheer size…

Very cool as always. How long does one of these guys take you? Jealous for your kid(s) that they will get these one day.
