The Savoia-Marchetti SM.81 Pipistrello (Italian: bat) was the first three-engine bomber/transport aircraft serving in the Italian Regia Aeronautica.[2] When it appeared in 1935, it represented a real step ahead in Italian military aviation: it was fast, well armed and had a long range.[2] It proved effective during the war with Ethiopia and the Spanish Civil War.[2] Despite being too slow to remain competitive as a bomber in the later years of World War II, it was one of the most flexible, reliable and important aircraft of the Regia Aeronautica from 1935 to 1944, and adapted to second-line duties in a wide range of tasks.

(Sorry, I accidentally hit submit a little early)

Very nice!! My 10 year old was looking at models the other day at hobby lobby - I told him to save his Christmas money, and we’d come back

Nice paint job! I wouldn’t have the patience.

Now do the Stuka Tank Buster (if you haven’t already).

Thanks for sharing.

Looks terrific, as per usual. That camouflage paint job is badass.

I built this Stuka a little over a year ago. It’s not the tank buster version though.

Thanks. These are the roundels used by the Aeronautica Militare during the Fascist regime of Mussolini.

That's some beautiful work there Darth. I'd like to see photos of your entire collection one day.

Why does an airplane need to be camouflage brown and green?

Shouldn’t an airplane be camouflage blue and white?

Why does an Australian shepherd dog have a blue coat?

Protection when on the ground. Also, to blend into the ground from aircraft above. Here’s an example…

I built a BF109 similar to this.

Almost all are camouflage in this manner on the bottom. That way when viewed from below the aircraft blends in with the sky. It’s hard to tell from the angle but the bottom of this 109 is a very light shade of pale blue.
