Nice of them to put the arrow on the wing so those squids would know which direction is forward.

Those are carrier air group markings.

That Corsair was the the USS Bunker Hill’s Air Group.

Damn. That’s nice. I’ve never tried working with balsa and paper. Not sure I’d have the patience.

Before the Hellcat, naval aviators were doing their best to just not get killed. The Wildcat could take a beating an did a good job holding its own, but it was really outclassed by the Zero. Once the Hellcat came into service though, now it was the Japanese pilots who found themselves facing a fighter that completely outclassed their own.

Just like anything else, balsa and paper take practice.

Cheers.

I’ve toured the Blue Ghost twice but need to go again. You can spend all day touring the carrier.
I believe the USS Texas is nearing completion and will be docked next to the MSC and RC cruise terminals in Galveston. The Cavalla and Stewart are in Seawolf Park there in Galveston too. You should make a day trip and visit all three.

You missed a spot by the right wing and landing gear.

I’ll be retiring in a few years. One of the main things I plan is for Mrs. Vader and I to do some long road trips. This sounds like a good idea for one.

That is my favorite WWII plane, and you really did it well. George R. Carr, of Bogalusa, flew a Hellcat off the Essex and became an Ace in an hour and a Double Ace during the Marianas Turkey Shoot. The Bogalusa airport is named in his honor.

That’s awesome. Never knew that. I’m glad you like it.
