I think that is one of the planes my uncle flew in "The Hump" in WW II. Started in fighters but wound up in transports to fix when needed while in the air.

If he flew “the hump”, odds are it was in a C-47.

Have you dabbled with airbrushing Darth? Back when I was younger and was pretty heavy into doing these I did some airbrushing with the testors kit. Pain in the butt to use and took a lot of practice. But I did an A-6 that was just gorgeous.

I use to air brush years until probably about 20 ago but I missed the time and effort of brush painting so I went back to it.

Fun fact. Anywhere you can land a 172 you can land that DC-3.

He started out as a fighter pilot over there till they discovered he was a true Greasemonkey and could fix most anything with an engine. Never said a word about his service till a few years before he died. Apparently that part of the war was not as well supplied as Europe and the Pacific and the patch work he did was not always safe to put back in the air. Those guys were tough and never complained tho, just did what they had to do the best they could. Had another uncle that survived the Death March. Never saw him put on weight for the rest of his life and was one of the kindest person I ever knew.

Seeing C-47s starts raising my heart rate. B-17s too. Great model, I can't get the scenes of a bunch of paratroopers dying inside one out of my head. Nobody makes movies about paratroopers dying in C-130s or C-17s, so that is magically better.

Flying the hump was very dangerous and you’re right, the CBI Theater very much played second fiddle to the ETO & PTO.

Haters gonna hate. They do this in all of these threads. I like that it bothers them.

A couple of years ago, our library hosted a talk by a 96-year old who flew the Hump. Dude was still sharp, gave a really good talk.

Not usually here on the OT but on another board I have some pretty solid serial down voters. Pretty easy to spot when they have 1 up vote on their post and I have 1 down vote on mine. few hours later if I remember to check back I will have a pretty consistent 3 - 5. Does not both me, and it you are laid back it is both funny and sad.

life is too short to let them infect you and sad they can not let go of the hate in their heart. Still does not hurt to pray for them as they need it more then most.

I don’t know how old Wolf is, but the C-47 was in use by the US Air Force, and I think Navy, until the 1960s. In Vietnam they were used as gunships.
