Tweet from VA Birmingham:
All appointments at the Birmingham VA Medical Center and Birmingham VA Clinic have been cancelled until further notice. We apologize for any inconvenience and will provide updated information as soon as possible.

VA spokesman Jeff Hester confirmed to CBS 42 that the appointments were cancelled as a precaution to keep patients safe. He also said no one was in danger inside of the building.

Kind of strange. They tweeted that and confirmed it to news outlets but have yet to release anything else. That's a large operation to shut down suddenly.

Somebody probably got tired of the shitty care and walked in hot.

I was at a hospital recently visiting and the hospital went on "lock down"
What happened was someone just dropped off a stabbing victim at a regular entrance and not the emergency entrance. Standard protocol was to go on "lock down" to verify everything else is ok.

Friend works there and I texted her. She said it's not an active shooter, but that's all she knew. She said everyone on her floor was pretty calm and going about their business.

Hospitals will go on lockdown for missing people like kids and the elderly that wander off from caretakers/care areas. Not every lockdown is about violence.

AL.com reporting that a shooting suspect from Hunstville could be going to the VA in Birmingham, and they went on lockdown in response.
"A man wanted in connection with a Huntsville shooting is believed to be in Birmingham, the authorities said.
Because authorities believed the suspect might be traveling to a veteran’s affairs clinic, the VA Medical Center and Clinic in Birmingham are on lockdown and have canceled appointments this afternoon. Police were stationed outside the VA building on 24th Street at Seventh Avenue South."
