quote:

terms "rifleman" and "mortarman," are among those that remain untouched, according to a list — obtained by Marine Corps Times on Monday — of 33 MOSs that were reviewed. And that was by careful design, said a Marine official who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Well thank god.

quote:

infantry Marine.

Riverine assault craft Marine.

Light-armor vehicle Marine.

Reconnaissance Marine (to include three other recon-related jobs that include the word "man").

Infantry assault Marine.

Basic field artillery Marine.

Field artillery fire control Marine.

Field artillery sensor support Marine.

Fire support Marine.

Basic engineer, construction and equipment Marine.

Basic tank and assault amphibious vehicle Marine.

Armor Marine.

Amphibious assault vehicle Marine.

Amphibious combat vehicle Marine.

Fwiw, I've never heard anybody say "I'm a recon-man" I've always just heard "I'm recon"

quote:

We have reached peak crazy," one reader commented on an earlier story by Marine Corps Times about this topic.

"If a woman isn't going to consider making the Navy her career because she is called a fireman or a corpsman, then I don't think she was going to make the Navy a career period," another reader commented on a Navy Times story. "We don't need [people who are easily offended] like that clogging up the institutions that protect our country."

I'm sorry, I couldn't help myself with this meme.

A name is just what people call you, it has no reflection on what you do. Its not that big of a deal.

I don't think the term has been officially changed yet, has it? If not, you're incorrect.

It doesn't matter.

I was a Reconnaissance Marine. I'm correct.

It isn't until you give merit to the people who say it is by changing up shite. We give in to everything for the sake of not having to listen to these pandering dumbarses, and now it has created a snowball effect.

Well, thank God we solved that problem.

Maybe we should change the word "Marine". It could trigger our enemies.

I'm thinking, "All inclusive protector of pan-national influence by intervention of force after failure of political negotiations-er"

I know the term has always been "Recon Marine" but every time I've talked to one of them they've always just referred to themselves as just Recon.

I was active duty from 1996-2000. I was a Marine and a military policeMAN.

That's my feeling.

I'm more concerned about PT standards and opening up combat arms to women.

Would the 2% of women that even qualify for these positions actually get upset?

Not likely. If they did, they need to find something else to do.

All the people that argue it's not that big of a deal, that it's just a name. You shouldn't mind changing it if it's not that important.

There's no use worrying about this. If females can't get past the first two weeks of SOI, there's no way in absolute hell they'll get through BRC.

After a few dislocate their pelvises, as they so often do, the standards will be lowered to accommodate a minority of the military population that wants to "play combat".
