i need to help buy my niece a car

we are just looking at toyota carolla or camry sedans from 2008-2014 in the $7k-$11k price range

i see many have whats called the CVT tranny but someone told me they recall hearing something bad about those type of trannys and want to know if this is true or not

thanks in advance for any factual info you can provide on anything to avoid with these year cars and any other suggestions of possible hidden issues with them

Used car salesman here.

Get a Camry. They’re invincible, overbuilt cars. Worth every penny.

I have my doubts about modern Corollas. They don’t seem as rock solid as they used to, and that’s not just due to the CVT.

well as it turns out the damage wasnt as bad as it looked

she submarined a minivan but there was no frame damage so its mostly all the sheet metal (hood & fenders) and plastic bumper and grille parts only that was trashed.

i found one a year older super cheap that had a bad engine (knocking) so im going pick it up in the morning so it makes it worth while to fix it

body shop will have to swap out the whole front cap and radiator core support, then paint match, but he said that should be doable for under $3k out the door

thanks for the advice guys, thats why i love this place, good people always willing to help you any way they can.
