Ah, gotcha.

My uncle was one of two survivors of the uss scorpion. It sank along with the uss thresher. There was a book written about it and only mentioned him as a spook. Anyway my aunt was constantly bugging him about what happened and any other tid bits she could pry out of him.

To shut her up he told her everybody else on board had syphilis and was intentionally sunk.

Back in the 80's she told me something he said. Told her we had a way to make airplanes and ships invisible. Now being a teenager iam thinking what the hell, like wonder woman's airplane? She said that's all he would say.

Nobody ever heard of stealth technology back then. But along comes desert storm and Iraq getting the hell bombed out of them with the stealths.

Never got to meet him but my mom said he was a hell of a guy. Died of a heart attack while doing jump training. R.I.P. uncle Joe.

Unfortunately there were only two. My uncle was sick and the other guy's wife was having a baby. They dropped them of in the Azores.

The book said he was a spook. I guessed it got published before all the political correctness started. From what mom told me he was an intelligence officer listening in on Russian submarines.

I still like the syphilis story. She was his younger sister and always playing jokes on her. it was all in good fun. His dad, and my other grandfather worked at the oak ridge facility during the making of the bomb. They were guards there. Paw paw told me he had to relieve the post guard and his throat was cut. He died of prostate cancer and always wondered what kind of safety protocol they did there.
