These are tested routinely. I am sure the military was happy to test it during this time, but it was going to be shot any which way.

So is this going to be like the nuclear war that I saw in "The Leftovers"?

Because that would be pretty entertaining to go out to.

Would look something like this

Is it really necessary for us to demonstrate that we can destroy any country we choose at any time we choose? I think everyone already knows that.

So we should just build missiles and never see if they work every now and then? I'm glad you aren't in charge of anything important.

Want to TRULY send a message to Pyongyang expressing our true strength over them? You can do it by NK seeing their missiles knocked out of the sky immediately after they leave NK airspace.

This has to be our next move. All else is just window dressing.

And we should send in some frogmen to apply charges to the hull of the captured USS Pueblo. List it as scuttled at sea.

They don't have warheads on them. And it's only one typically. They can shoot down one with a saturation response.

Anyone else old enough to remember the ridicule and derision heaped upon the greatest president in our lifetime, when he proposed investing in technology that would do exactly that?

It was the first time in my young life that I realized that the media only supports socialist democrats.

This is what falls from space. The W-78 warhead is contained inside the shroud

It is designed to explode at a classified altitude above their target. From googling I'd guess around 400m

If you miss you bolster NK and their propaganda.

Not to mention you reveal a lot about our defense system to countries that are a real threat.

As if their propaganda is truthful anyway. They're probably already touting that the US has no defense system and that NK has the US bowing to them and begging them not to strike. Their own propaganda is the least of our worries. Also, everyone in the world knows how hard it is to shoot down a warhead in terminal phase, where it's hardest to hit. I don't think hitting it with an SM-3 while it's in its launch phase would be too difficult (relatively speaking).

The real defense system to nuclear weapons is MAD. There's not much Russia or China can learn from a shoot down that they don't know already.

One must always keep the tools of statecraft sharp and ready. Power and fear - sharp and ready.
