Loneliness, nihilism, and ultimately fatalism are extremely prominent in Gen Z. Financial issues as well, but I think tackling the loneliness is priority 1.

I think fostering community engagement solves a lot of things if we can motivate people to pursue it. As a random but current example, I like that people play pickleball now in parks. That gives one outlet in which to meet new people and grow some empathy for your neighbors and ultimately gain friendships. I also think volunteer efforts through a church provide similar good opportunities.

know personally of 3 attempts.

2 hung themselves- and died.

1 purposefully crashed a car- lived.

No guns involved.

Should we outlaw cars? Rope? Belts?

No.

Translation: The powers that be know that they messed up badly with COVID lockdowns / mandates which caused much of this spike. They need a boogeyman to dump the blame on, so go with the easy scapegoat.

That's ideological BS. There was a huge study done a while back that looked at gun ownership and availability across culture within matching socio-economic ethnic groups on the dimensions of suicide and homicide. For example, Swedes in Minnesota where guns are common and easily available were compared to their cousins in Sweden where ownership and availability are much more restricted. The homicide rate had no significant differences, but the suicide rate in Minnesota was significantly lower.

The study was repeated across several groups of ethnic origin.

Suicide has a huge cultural component as any gander at international statistics can confirm. For example, Italy and most predominately Catholic countries have very low suicide rates in the 3/100,000 range. Religion place a big role here.

Korea and Japan have a rate of suicide that is usually in the 23/100,000 range.

Princess the data don’t lie at least we may be able to put hands on the people who need help and we will not get them help in our derelict healthcare system that is broken as hell! But we could go back to 28-30k deaths a year ABSOLUTELY I would go back the death rate has gone steadily up year after year and we are at 125-130k that’s a lot of moms dads brothers and sisters kids! people would like a fighting chance against synthetic counterfeit fentanyl to not give up.

The availability of guns caused the depression leading to suicide? I'm no scientific rocket, but any root cause analysis I've done in the past doesn't really follow the logic tree that this person uses to come up with her conclusion.

Exactly. Non suicidal people generally don’t decide to shoot themselves if a gun is laying around.
