US Pilots reporting the 737 MAX 8 tilting down after turning autopilot on
It's time US FAA shuts down use of all these planes till they get a software reboot on the autopilot system.
But why? It's obviously an issue and AA and Southwest have a shite ton of other planes they could use to fly. I know if I'm flying and I see I'm set to fly on that plane, I will be giving up my seat for the next flight.

The Max 8 is at the center of a growing global ban by more than 40 countries following a second fatal crash, this time in Ethiopia, in less than five months.
The pilots said that soon after engaging the autopilot on Boeing 737 Max 8 planes, the nose tilted down sharply. In both cases, they recovered quickly after disconnecting the autopilot.
In the U.S., however, the Federal Aviation Administration and airlines continued to permit the planes to fly.
American Airlines and Southwest Airlines operate the 737 Max 8, and United Airlines flies a slightly larger version, the Max 9. All three carriers vouched for the safety of Max aircraft on Wednesday

A third pilot complained that Boeing had not explained changes to the plane's automation to pilots.
"I am left to wonder: what else don't I know?" the pilot wrote. "The Flight Manual is inadequate and almost criminally insufficient."

the sad but true aspect of the US FAA.
40 countries ban this plane for safety and US says frick it, ride it till something happens

quote:Boeing probably geared the flight manual towards foreign pilots. American pilots tend to want to know how the systems work, what is the chain of events if something malfunctions, what are the indications, what other systems could be affected. Foreign airlines train their pilots to push certain buttons at certain times without any real understanding of what’s actually happening when they turn something on or off other than the fact that they’ve turned something on or off.
The Flight Manual is inadequate and almost criminally insufficient."

Seems like there should be a centralized standard of training for pilots being that citizens from across the globe use them for transport. Maybe I should get my pilot’s license Incase I ever hear “is there a pilot on board...?” over the intercom.

Easy fix; just have pilots fly the planes instead of drinking tea and getting bjs from hot flight attendants.

Hot flight attendants? What airline do you fly on? That’s a rare sighting these days.

Someone at Boeing is buddy buddy with someone at the FAA.
I may be wrong but didn't something like that happen with the FAA and McDonnell-Douglas with the DC10?

These days you have to go on an Asian carrier for those. Thank God for Singapore Air

quote:I can’t get the full article to pull up because of a paywall but Boeing admitted last November after the Lion Air crash that they had intentionally left out information about the automated MCAS system from the flight manuals so as not to “inundate the average pilot with too much technical or unnecessary information”
