Very helpful and informative post. I hope you never have to appear before congress to justify the expenditure for your dress bell-bottoms.

True. I was in businesses that dealt with container ships and I've seen the massive commerce through Louisiana and Texas ports. It's astounding.

Long Beach California is seriously an impressive port.

I love me some navy but a 4 billion dollar destroyer ...given our current environment of having zero enemies who can even consider taking on our navy.

China is building islands in the SCS to exert their dominance over oil rich resources rightfully owned by other nations. The reserves are more than 500 miles from their mainland coast. Our Navy protects the freedom of navigation in one of the most hotly contested waters on Earth.

We sent a destroyer to the Black Sea when Russia invaded Ukraine

The missiles on modern Destroyers and Cruisers have ABM capability. Aegis radar can track ICBMs in space as well as enemy satellites destroying them with SM-2 Block IV missiles

Your call on whether you think that is an important capability...Mr. Naval Warfare Expert and Geopolitical Genius

I only have 1 pic of me in dress blues and it's from boot camp (and you can't see my arse).

I think in 8 years I might have worn a dress uniform 5 or 6 times. Submariners don't worry about formal shite like that.

You needed no help in the justification of your cluelessness on the matter.

When you first got them they sucked... but after 2 or 3 washes those were some of the most comfortable fricking pants ever made.

I got issued the old dungarees in early 1999 and they were phased out not long after. But I held on as long as possible.

I'm going to assume you didn't answer the question because you could not answer the question. Others were able to, so I have clarification on both my question and your inability to not be a douche bag.

Our navy does a fine job of that. Given the assets we currently have available, tell me again the need for a 4-billion dollar destroyer to do the job, when our current warships do the same job for less.

I wasn't aware that the Chinese intended to defend their ill-gotten islands with Ballistic missiles.

Again, our current Aegis destroyers/cruisers seem to have a handle on that.

Once again, the need for a 4-billion dollar destroyer is what?

Expert no...but much like the F-35...seems like the military industrial complex is hard at work here spending the taxpayer's money on weapon systems that are unnecessary in the current geopolitical world.

Literally, no one in the world is dumb enough to even try to take on our navy...the money could have been better spent.

True statement. I think I would have hated the new navy working unis...look as uncomfortable as hell (and I bet as hot as hell in the Indian Ocean).
