I agree, and all of the Arab states have some religious minorities.

But Jordan and the KSA don't have the Kurdish problem, nor do they have the geographical split between Sunni and Shia to the extent that Iraq does.

For example, Jordan is 95% Muslim, of which 93% are Sunnis. The KSA is entirely Muslim, and anywhere from 3/4s to 95% Sunni.

By comparison, Iraq is only 2/3rds Sunni, and 1/3rd Shia. This is further compounded by 20% of the population being Kurdish and not Arab, whereas Jordan and the KSA are practically entirely Arab.

Also consider that those countries have monarchies that were intensely totalitarian until very recently, and supported by the West.

Needs to be an organic uprising/civil war. That is the only way these things work out. The Taliban or whoever we were fighting I dunno anymore. They will do all kinds of atrocious things and then people will have enough. There will be small guerilla warfare by the oppressed. Then when they get aittle better we go in and blow everything up bigly and out humane/sane people in charge. Empower some women by showing them how to use onlyfans. Everything will work out. Might be a few years but that is how you do positive change

More evidence that about three or four nukes would’ve saved us 20 fricking years and trillions of dollars. Dropping a few nukes on their asses right after 9/11 would’ve been easy to gather support for and I guarantee nobody would’ve messed with us for a generation.

Our leaders should have answered the question of conditions for victory before launching the war. And then asked the natural follow up question, does the US possess (1) the military ability and (2) national will to achieve the required conditions for victory? The answer is yes to the latter but no to the former. While our military has the ability to lay waste to anything in its path, our modern western sensibilities would preclude any such war of complete annihilation from ever being waged again in the manner we, as part of the Allies, waged against Japan and Germany in World War II.

Thus, the American war in Afghanistan was doomed from the start due to a lack of will to prosecute the war in a manner that could lead to victory.

It’s as simple as that.

(Sigh). Correct. I "sighed" because you could substitute the word Vietnam for Afghanistan. We didn't learn.

Yep, the thing is everyone knew it was unwinnable before going in long term and for what reasons? The Afghani aren't worth the price of extermination or the Russians would have fumigated the region but decided not to and pull out a decade prior. They actually have much better reasons than we do.

We couldn’t go after these assholes due to rules of engagement and Pakistan essentially supporting the cause of the Taliban. Air strikes and Artillery has to be carefully used, because if Pakistan was hit, shite would’ve hit the fan.

Holy shite that’s absurd. We should’ve told Pakistan “exterminate them or we’re coming in.”

It would have been like occupying the US West and making Cherokee, Mojave, Navajo, and all the other tribes unite under a common western constitutional government.

So, like, what we did.
