I'm not an aviation guy, but there is a simple reason.

1) a pressurized plane is pressurized at a level, usually airport destination. So the pressure is the same of about sea level.
2) someone going up to Mount Everest, slowly goes up the body slowly adjusts.
3) going from 100 to 30,000 causes you to pass out and die quickly.

Frosted glass sounds like depressurization....so the passengers probably faced hypoxia and died fairly quickly.

People who climb Everest go through significant levels of training and many carry oxygen. Many of us would never make it up there even in the best shape.

If white cops from Ferguson hijacked a plane full of African-American teenagers and the plane then disappeared ... CNN wouldn't be able to contain their glee.
