All part of lulling you into thinking that they don't exist. Meanwhile their acolytes are in charge of both the Russian and American governments.

The 90's are long gone. Russia has not quite regained the military strength that it had in the 80's. But it's not far from it. And while Russia has spent the last decade or so rearming and modernizing it's military, NATO (including the US) have been cutting back their own forces. for all intents and purposes, western Europe is all but disarmed. Even the US forces permanently based in Europe are pathetically weak. In all of Europe the only ground forces left is one airborne brigade in Italy and one armored cav regiment in Germany. And that cav regiment doesn't even have any tanks.

The Russian military still has lots of catching up to do with getting modernized across the board.

Throw in the fact the huge influence of conscripts in its ranks, that is not good for invading foreign countries.

Faced with a US economy (and military, fueled by that economy) they could never beat, the KGB realized that the only way to advance internationalist communist objectives was to remove the US threat by sabotaging it from within. This was a long play that had to begin with the removal of the USSR from the scene. See: for as long as the USSR was in existence, the US would perceive communism to be a real, existential threat, but if it wasn't around, the guard against both the physical reality of the Soviet Union and the philosophical/cultural threat of socialist thinking would go down. Next, you erode Americans' ability to think by infecting the school system with useful idiots who will expound your ideology to impressionable youth, and begin work on molding useful idiot politicians with a grievance against the prevailing culture who will take up the banner of socialism and seek high office from which they can do damage to their own mother country. Enter: Obama. Meanwhile the KGB - Putin - bide their time until we're weakened and have become socialists as well and no longer their enemy. At that time they re-emerge and being re- assembling the old Soviet client states on their march toward victory for Marxism.

And they're rapidly catching up. In fact, on the ground, they've already caught up with the West. They're not quite there in regards to air power. but their advantage in ground forces are huge, including a massive amount of very modern SAMs that can negate our advantage in air power.

They're conscripts, but they're also trained conscripts. And they've got a shite ton of them. As Stalin himself once famously said "Quantity has a quality all its own". And this is only made worse by the massive cutbacks in NATO forces in Europe since the fall of the Soviet Union. Russia has been busy for over a decade rebuilding it's forces. And while they've been rebuilding, we've been continuing to cut forces, especially ground forces. And while air power can make the difference in a war, it cannot by itself win a war... not like one that would be fought in Europe against a massive army equipped with modern weapons. The deciding factor in a general European war will be ground forces. And that's where Russia enjoys it's huge advantage.

Well trained is a stretch bc most of them are only in for two years or so and they dont want to be there. You would be right if it was a conscript army defending its homeland.

You're mistaking their force reorganization for weakness. They're going away from divisional structures to brigade structures. They've got 85 combat brigades ready to go and that number is growing. Compare that number to one airborne brigade and one cav regiment of US forces in Europe.

Russia has a history of it's army being conscripts. Even in WWII their army was made up of mostly conscripts. They still beat the shite out of a smaller enemy who had for the most part better equipment and better trained troops.

Russian soldiers are known for a dogged attitude of following orders, even suicidal orders. And if they're imbued with a sense of regaining past Soviet/Russian glory, they'll go where ordered. If Mother Russia wants them to march to the Elbe, or even the Rhine or the Seine, they'll do it or die trying. Don't sell the average Russian soldier short. History has proven that they are one of the toughest war fighters on the planet, even their conscripts.

The Nutless Wonder we have for a president will never do this. He has been made a fool of by Putin and he just needs to accept it. Putin called his bluff because he knew he was a pussy so he doesn't need to overreact now trying to prove he's the man. I would let China and Russia kill all the muslims they wanted to kill.

Exactly. The Finns straight-up humiliated them, but who won in the end?

Very little. Even Germany has a little over 60,000 full time active duty soldiers. Not even the Treaty of Versailles weakened them to that point.

Not really. Not that IGAF, I'd rather fight for middle eastern oil than those pussies in Europe.
