I'd hate to have a legal document saying I was born in mexico.

I mean, I can understand detaining him, but it certainly took way too long to resolve and release him. Pretty sure ICE has access to citizenship records. If not, might as well just disband it now.

Did you read this?
Any documentation he had was, at best, cloudy. Mom fricked up but let's blame it on the government.

When Mr. Galicia was born, she did not put her real name on his birth certificate because of her immigration status, and she never corrected it.

It still had his name on it, right? Doesn't matter what mother was listed

Obviously the clickbait version of the story is way more fun. This is all Trump's fault, right?

This didn't help either, but of course these small details are buried at the end of the story.

The Post reported that the delay could be in part because Francisco's mother, who is not a citizen, took out a U.S. tourist visa in his name while he was still a minor, falsely saying he was born in Mexico. Galan told the newspaper that the paperwork confusion only furthered the agency’s suspicion that Galicia’s U.S. documents were fake.
